Youth-Read the Defence-Pass & Cut

Coaches should introduce the concept of reading defenders early in player's development.  For players to be successful they must be aware of how they are being played when they are away from the ball.

Youth-Point Per Pass Basketball Game

This is a strategy you may want to use with your youth teams if you find the players are passing and standing.

Youth - Eyes Up Shooting Drill

Here are two simple shooting drills that can be included in a warm-up and will help players to keep their eyes up and be aware.

"Hot Knife Through Butter"

Typically young players, when they are dribbling the ball up court, will slow down and turn their back as they get close to the defender. Instead what they should attempt to do is to go faster as they get closer to the defender.

Youth Development - Sharks and Minnows

It is important that youth coaches incorporate agility training into their basketball practice on a regular basis. This can be easily done through pursuit or tag games done early in the practice session.

Youth Dev. - Dodge and Steal Game

Two things youth coaches must always do in each practice are: 1) work on the ABC'S of Athleticism (Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed) and 2) use games to learn tactics, work on skills, and improve their kid's athleticism.
