Athlete 1 will say “go” and drop the tennis ball at the same time. Athlete 2 makes a crossover step and then sprints to grab the tennis ball before it bounces twice. Switch and go the other direction so the athlete crosses the other leg over. The athlete should focus on pushing into the floor to generate force on the crossover step.
