Set Plays
Germany-Iverson Cut:

One of the more popular wing entries is the “Iverson cut” where a perimeter player cuts from one side of the court to the other and receives a screen from a post player along the foul line.  The screen may be a single or double screen but it is designed to get an entry pass at the opposite wing.

In this set, the German Olympic Team combined an Iverson cut with a “screen the screener” action and two “little-big cross screens” for their 5 player.  In the first diagram O2 cuts off O4’s screen along the foul line and receives the entry pass from O1.  O1 moves away to the weak-side wing.  At the same time O3 is cutting across the lane to set a cross screen for O5.

In the next diagram, O3 runs off of O4  and receives the ball near the NBA 3 pt. line.  After setting the screen O4 immediately breaks out the wing and receives a reversal pass from O3.  As O3 is cutting high O1 is cutting towards the block.

To conclude the set, as O4 is receiving the pass, O1 sets a cross screen for O5.

Germany-Circle:

Here is another set from the German Olympic Team.  In transition, O1 enters the ball to O2, high at the wing, and cuts towards the weak side of the floor.  O4 is trailing into the foul line area and sets a screen for O5 to curl over top of.  O3 moves towards the weak side block.

After setting the screen for O5, O4 steps out and receives a pass from O2.  O2 immediately sprints off O4, receives a hand-off and then dribbles towards the opposite wing.  O3 leads O1 and they set a staggered cross screen for O5.  This is the first scoring opportunity.  If the timing is perfect O5 will never have stopped moving.

The set finishes with O3 coming off a down screen from O4 looking for a pass from O2 for a shot.  O1 will space out towards the wing.  The ball may be reversed to O1 who can then look inside for O4, who posts up after setting the down screen.

China-Double Back:

This is a set the Chinese Men’s Olympic Team ran to get Yao Ming the ball in the low post off a staggered back screen.  Out of a box set O1 would enter the ball to Yao, O5, as he stepped out diagonally from the elbow.  O1 then cut straight down the middle as O4 stepped out towards the top and received a pass from O5.  O3 started to move towards the wing.

O4 reversed the ball to O3 at the wing as O2 stepped into the lane and set the first back screen for Yao.  O1 had stopped in the middle of the lane and then sets the second back screen for Yao.  O3 looked inside to Yao.

After reversing the ball to the wing O4 set a down screen for O2 to come to the top for a possible shot.  If O2 did not have a shot he could reverse the ball to O1 who sprinted to the wing.  O1 could then look inside to O4 who posted after setting the down screen.

Quick Hitter
Germany-Double:

This quick hitter Germany ran began with O3 coming off the two posts towards the opposite wing: another Iverson cut.  O1 begins by dribbling towards O3 and then crossing back to make the entry pass.  As O3 is cutting towards the wing O2 clears the wing area by moving towards the lane and preparing to set a cross screen.

O2 sets the cross screen for O4 and then receives a down screen from O5.

Baseline Out of Bounds
China-Flex:

Many teams run a quick “flex” action from an out of bounds situation.  It is a quick hitting action that is very effective.  China ran this with O1 setting a down screen for O5 to pop towards the wing and receive the entry pass from O2.  O3 cuts low to the weak-side and O4 cuts to the high elbow ball-side.

O5 reverses the ball to O4, O3 breaks back up high and receives a pass from O4. After in-bounding the ball, O2 steps in and sets a back screen for O5 as the ball is reversed to O3.  After reversing the ball O4 sets a down screen for O2.
